Standard (OSNP) 2026/2 of the Open Source Nutrition Project

of 9/2026

https://osnp.eu/ord/c/2026/2/en

establishing the OSNP Resource Designator (ORD), laying down the rules by which every published work of the Project is numbered, named, addressed and kept, and founding the Official System Repository as the permanent public record of that work.

THE OPEN SOURCE NUTRITION PROJECT,

Having regard to Protocol (OSNP) 2026/1, and in particular Articles 4, 17 and 20 thereof.

Having regard to the body of work the Project has published, its canon, logs, articles, manuals and posts, spread across its shop, its journal and its channels and without any common means of being named, cited or found.

Having regard to the internet, where a link breaks the day the page it points to moves.

Whereas:

(1)  A record that cannot be found is a hidden record. Resolute Transparency requires relevant data to be as immediately accessible as possible; an address that dies when a page moves fails that requirement on the day the page moves.

(2)  The Protocol requires a permanent, chronological history of errors and their corrections. A record of a correction can point to what was corrected only if the corrected Work carries an exact name that never changes.

(3)  Pages move and domains change. The Project's own shop changed its domain within its first ten days. Every Work therefore needs one address that belongs to the Work itself and outlives wherever the Work is kept.

(4)  A number given once must mean one thing forever. A number that can be reused, reassigned or quietly renumbered is decoration, and decoration without function is prohibited by Article 14 of the Protocol.

(5)  This Standard forms part of the OSNP Production Standards referred to in Article 6 of the Protocol. It serves the Open Source Mandate, by making every Work findable, and Error Logging, by making every correction traceable to what it corrected.

HAS ADOPTED THIS STANDARD:

Chapter I

Scope and definitions

Article 1

Subject matter and scope

1. This Standard establishes the OSNP Resource Designator (ORD), the single system by which the Project identifies its published Works.

2. It lays down how an ORD identifier is built, assigned, cited, displayed and resolved.

3. It establishes the Official System Repository of the OSNP as the public register of every Work that holds an ORD identifier.

4. It applies to every Work of the Project of a type listed in Article 5.

Article 2

Definitions

For the purposes of this Standard:

(a) "Work" means a Product within the meaning of Article 2 of the Protocol that consists of published words, images, sound or interactive code and is published whole, such as an act, a log entry, an article, a chapter of a manual, a post or a video.

(b) "ORD identifier" means the permanent identifier of a Work, made of its type, year and number as laid down in Article 3.

(c) "Type" means the kind of Work, designated by one letter under Article 5.

(d) "Series" means a group of Works published under a common title, such as the chapters of a manual.

(e) "Address" means the web address formed from an ORD identifier under Article 4.

(f) "Register" means the Official System Repository of the OSNP established by Article 16.

(g) "Publication" means the moment a Work is first made available to the public.

(h) "Revision" means a substantial change to a Work after its publication, such as adding or removing an article, a paragraph or a section, and any correction of an error, however small. Correcting spelling or punctuation, or rephrasing, is not a revision.

(i) "Log entry" means a Work of type L. Together, the log entries are the Error Log referred to in Article 20 of the Protocol.

Chapter II

The identifier

Article 3

Structure

1. Every ORD identifier consists of three parts:

(a)  the letter of the Work's type;

(b)  the year of the Work's publication;

(c)  the number of the Work within its type and year.

2. The three parts together identify one Work and no other, forever. Example: the Protocol is C-2026-001.

Article 4

Address

1. The address of a Work takes the form:

https://osnp.eu/ord/{letter}/{year}/{number}/{language}

2. Every part of an address is written in lowercase, the letter included. Numbers carry no leading zeros. A trailing slash has no meaning.

3. An address always designates a whole Work. No part of a Work has an address of its own.

4. A page may let a reader jump to a part of a Work by a fragment added to the address. Example: https://osnp.eu/ord/c/2026/1/en#art-20. A fragment is a convenience of the page, not part of the address, and this Standard does not guarantee it.

Article 5

Types

1. The types and their letters are:

LetterTypeHolds
CCanonThe acts that bind the Project, such as the Protocol and its Standards
LLogEntries of the public changelog, including errors, fixes and revisions
AArticleArticles, in the journal or on a page of their own
MMonographLong-form works, such as manuals, guides and books, and each chapter published on its own
PPostWritten social media posts
VVideoVideos, on any platform
TToolInteractive Works, such as maps, calculators and quizzes
SSourceTechnical records of a Product's inputs, such as specification sheets, certificates of analysis and batch records

2. A type is added only by amending this Standard.

3. A letter, once assigned to a type, is never assigned to another type, even if the type is closed.

Article 6

Numbering

1. Each type keeps one number sequence per calendar year.

2. Each sequence starts at 1 and rises by one as numbers are assigned under Article 7. A number released under Article 7(2) is assigned again before the sequence rises.

3. A number, once final, is never reused, reassigned or changed, including when its Work is withdrawn.

4. The year is the year of the Work's publication. A Work keeps its year for life, including when it is revised in a later year.

5. A type holds at most 999 Works in a year.

Article 7

Assignment

1. A Work receives its number when it is scheduled for publication, or at publication if it was never scheduled. The number is reserved until publication, and becomes final at publication.

2. If a Work holding a reservation is dropped, or its publication moves into a later year, the reservation is released. A released number goes to the next Work newly scheduled in that type and year, never to a Work that already holds a number.

3. Only published Works hold final numbers. A number still unassigned at the end of its year is never used, and the Register marks it as unassigned.

4. Works published before the entry into force of this Standard are numbered in the order of their date of publication. Where two share a date, the order in which the Register first lists them decides.

Article 8

Series

1. Every Work in a series is a Work in its own right and holds its own ORD identifier.

2. A Work's place in its series, such as a chapter number, belongs to its title and has no bearing on its ORD number.

3. A series holds no ORD identifier.

Article 9

Revisions

1. A revised Work keeps its ORD identifier and its address. The revised text replaces the previous text, and the address resolves to the current text.

2. Every revision is recorded in a log entry that cites the revised Work, states what changed and gives the date on which the change took effect. Where the revision replaces or removes words, the log entry quotes the replaced words.

3. A tool is revised only when its code or its function changes. A change in the data a tool draws on is not a revision.

4. Log entries are never revised. An error in a log entry is corrected by a new log entry that cites it.

Article 10

Languages

1. An ORD identifier does not depend on language. A translation is a language version of the same Work, never a new Work.

2. Every Work is first published in English, the Project's main language.

3. A language version is addressed by its two-letter ISO 639-1 code as the last part of the address. Examples: https://osnp.eu/ord/c/2026/1/en is the Protocol in English, https://osnp.eu/ord/c/2026/1/sl the Protocol in Slovene.

4. An address without a language resolves to the English version. Citations link to the address with its language.

Chapter III

Citation

Article 11

Canon

1. Every canon act bears a name that states its kind, such as Protocol or Standard. It is cited in prose in the form "{Name} (OSNP) {YYYY}/{N}", with the number written without leading zeros. Example: Protocol (OSNP) 2026/1.

2. The first mention in a Work may add the act's long title. Later mentions may use the short form "the Protocol" or "this Standard".

3. A part of an act is cited after the act in the form "{Name} (OSNP) {YYYY}/{N}, Article {n}({paragraph}), point ({point})", stopping at the level cited. Examples: Protocol (OSNP) 2026/1, Article 20; Protocol (OSNP) 2026/1, Article 19(2), point (a).

4. In tables, lists and the Register, a canon act may also be cited by its code under Article 12. Example: C-2026-001.

Article 12

Records

A Work of any type other than Canon is cited by its code in the form "{Letter}-{YYYY}-{NNN}", with the letter in capitals and the number always written in three digits. Example: L-2026-002.

Article 13

Links

1. Every citation of a Work that can carry a link links to the Work's address.

2. A citation never links to the Work's current location in place of its address.

Chapter IV

Display

Article 14

Where the identifier is shown

1. Every Work published on the Project's website shows its citation and its address, save as provided in paragraph 3.

2. No image, post or video carries its identifier within its frame. The identifier is carried by the text that accompanies it: the caption of a post, the description of a video, or the caption under an image or video placed within another Work.

3. A Work of type S is published exactly as it was issued, with nothing added. Its citation and address are shown in its Register entry.

Article 15

Errors and fixes

1. An error in a Work is fixed in the Work itself, by a revision under Article 9.

2. The fix is recorded in a log entry under Article 9(2), which states that the revision corrects an error and what the error was.

3. An error in the Project's operations, such as a defective batch, is recorded in a log entry, and its fix in a later log entry.

Chapter V

The Official System Repository

Article 16

Establishment

1. The Official System Repository of the OSNP referred to in Article 21 of the Protocol is the Register established by this Chapter.

2. The Register is published at https://osnp.eu/ord.

3. It holds one entry for every Work that holds a final ORD identifier, and lists them by type, year and number. The Works of a series are also listed together under the series title.

Article 17

Content of an entry

Each entry states:

(a)  the ORD identifier, citation and address;

(b)  the title of the Work;

(c)  the type and, where the Work belongs to one, its series;

(d)  the date of publication;

(e)  every revision, with its date and the log entry that records it;

(f)  every language version;

(g)  every location where the Work is published, including each platform copy of a post or video;

(h)  its status: current or withdrawn.

Article 18

Resolution

1. The address of a Work published on the Project's website resolves to the Work's current page there.

2. The address of a post or video resolves to its Register entry, which links to every location where the Work is currently published.

3. The address of a withdrawn Work resolves to its Register entry.

Article 19

Permanence

1. No entry is ever deleted.

2. A withdrawn Work keeps its entry, identifier and number. The entry records the date and the reason of withdrawal.

3. Every withdrawal is recorded in a log entry. Log entries are never withdrawn.

Article 20

Namespace

1. The domain osnp.eu is the permanent namespace of every ORD address.

2. Wherever the Project's Works are kept, now or in the future, their ORD addresses stay unchanged and are pointed to the Works' new locations.

3. The Project shall keep the domain osnp.eu registered for as long as any Work holds an ORD identifier.

Chapter VI

Final provisions

Article 21

Amendment

This Standard is amended only by a revision under Article 9 or by a later canon act.

Article 22

Transitional provisions

1. Works published before the entry into force of this Standard receive ORD identifiers under Article 7(4).

2. The Protocol receives the identifier C-2026-001 and is cited from then on as Protocol (OSNP) 2026/1, in place of its earlier form No 001/2026. It is entered in the Register with its original date of publication, which remains the date of its entry into force. This Standard is C-2026-002.

3. The existing web addresses of those Works continue to work. The Project's own references to them move to their ORD addresses.

Article 23

Entry into force

This Standard enters into force on the day of its publication in the Official System Repository of the OSNP.
